Journalist Fredy López Arévalo, news anchor for Chiapas’ XERA-Radio Uno, was assassinated this afternoon in San Cristóbal de las Casas.
Fredy López Arévalo was assassinated when he arrived at his home; a person approached him on the street, shot him and later fled on a motorcycle.
Elements of the Municipal Police implemented an operation to try to locate those responsible, without results being obtained at the moment.
The governor of Chiapas, Rutilio Escandón, wrote on his Twitter account: “I strongly condemn the cowardly murder of journalist Fredy López Arévalo. No crime will go unpunished, investigations are ongoing. My solidarity with his family and friends ”.
One of his last published information is that the mayor of San Cristóbal, Mario Díaz Ochoa, had supposedly fired 200 trusted employees, for which the city council drags labor commitments for more than 22 million pesos.
On September 28, Manuel González Reyes – director of the digital medium Portal Morelos – was shot dead. Previously, on August 12, journalist Jacinto Romero Flores was assassinated in Veracruz. On July 22, in Guaymas, Sonora, the murder of journalist Ricardo López, head of InfoGuayma, occurred.
