In a few hours, the 63-year-old will officially launch his campaign for the leadership of the Conservative Party of Canada (CPC) in Calgary.

“The common thread of my whole career has been the idea of Canada, I believe in it deeply. Being a Canadian citizen is like winning the lottery,” says Jean Charest in an interview with Mario Dumont.

“The CCP has a historic responsibility to the people to be a national party, an alternative to the liberals, while there the party is divided. I want to give it a national dimension that will allow it to win a general election, to form a government including each region, including Quebec. This is my ambition,” he adds.

Nearly 30 years after becoming leader of the Progressive Conservative Party, the politician still believes in it. “I started in federal politics, I ran for leadership in 1993 with a somewhat heartbreaking result. Being prime minister is important as long as you know what you want to do. We have to do politics, because there are dreams, projects for our country. If I am Prime Minister of Canada, it will be a breath of fresh air in Ottawa, because they will have a Prime Minister who understands how the federal system works and who has big plans, ”supports Jean Charest.
