Jalisco promotes investment opportunities in the Midwest of the United States


Guadalajara, Jalisco. With the exception of Chicago, the Midwest area of ​​the United States is a “virgin market” for Jalisco companies to provide products and services, mainly in sectors such as food, tequila, mezcal, jewelry, fashion and handicrafts.

The Executive Director of the organization Wisconsin Hispanic Scholarship Foundation (WHSF)/Mexican Fiesta, Teresa Mercado, told El Economista that for many years “everything comes and stops in Chicago”, while other states in the area that represent a potential market for Mexican businessmen.

He specified that Wisconsin alone has a population of almost 6 million people, of which 400,000 are of Latino origin; 80% of the Latino population are Mexicans and of them the majority (70%) from Jalisco.

“This population of Mexicans is different; we are the Mexicans a little more established, with an investment perspective. There are young millennials in their 25s and 30s who own restaurants, are entrepreneurs, and this is a very strong current of supporting young local Latinos,” Mercado said.

He explained that Mexican Fiesta is a platform that in the 49 years it has been held in Milwaukee has established itself as a pillar of culture and academic education, as well as economic development for the region.

Mexican Fiesta is held every year during the month of August, and for three days there are musical groups, folkloric dances and an exhibition of crafts, food and typical drinks. Around 90,000 people attend annually, not only of Mexican origin but also from other Latin countries.

With the resources obtained from this event, the foundation has awarded more than 1.4 million dollars in scholarships to Hispanic university students.

WHSF signed an agreement with the civil association PROCULTAJ in order to operate, as of August 2022, a cultural center in the Mexican Fiesta facilities through which workshops on different arts will be offered to the Mexican community in Milwaukee.
