JAC triples car sales in Mexico

The increase in the price of gasoline, environmental contingencies and the autonomy of JAC vehicles have caused the Mexican-Chinese automaker to triple its sales in the Mexican market, to the point of having a waiting list for the delivery of units, announced Isidoro Massri, director of JAC Mexico.

“Electrification in Mexico is improving and JAC has also tripled its budgets to bet on electric cars” in the country, which currently already represent 20% of the total sales of the Chinese automaker.

In interview with The EconomistIsidoro Massri, affirmed that J.A.C. is the leading brand in sales of electric cars, which managed to increase its sales of combustion and electric units by 171.1% during April compared to the same month in 2021, going from 450 cars to selling 1,220 cars.

He stressed that companies have chosen J.A.C. as a profitable option for their fleets and the electric ones went from 10 cars sold on average to 250 in a month “it has been a radical growth”.

He said that the introduction of the new family JAC Pure Electric to our country with the models E 10X and now E J7, has been a watershed in the Mexican market, given the great acceptance of the brand by customers and business partners.

Five years after having a presence in the Mexican market, Giant Motors Latin Americaa company in which Carlos Slim Helú is a shareholder, has already achieved that six6 out of every 10 electric cars sold in the country are JAC.

But, with the pace of growth in the demand for electrification, Massri bets that this year the equation will change to have 7 out of 10 electric units sold by J.A.C..

“Since 2019 when we started with the adventure, then the pandemic and in 2021 we reinforced the challenges, any expectation has been exceeded, we have tripled and quadrupled the budget in terms of electric sales and I am fascinated to say it, Mexico is doing very well, well Anyone who thought that the cultural change was going to last decades is happening fast”, he asserted.

“The months of March, April and May have been revealing and we have sold in one month, what was sold in one year the previous year, and we have a waiting list, especially in electrics. Which is taking us 2 or 3 months in supply, because we did not expect the demand. We also have more supply and in April alone we sold more than 200 electric units, so there is “hunger” among Mexicans for green units, said the corporate director,” he commented.

This has led the brand to go from a 0.06% share of the automotive market to 0.24% during the first two months of 2022, translated into 379 units, against the 100 registered in the first two months of 2021, representing an increase of 279%, of according to figures from the AMIA.

The director of JAC Mexico maintains that the recent confinement in China has not impacted the company in the supply of its parts and vehicles from the East, since it has flexibility in supply.
