Ivanka Trump Testifies Before Committee on Assault on Capitol Hill

Ivanka Trumpdaughter of the former US president, declared this Tuesday before the committee of the House of Representatives which tries to clarify what role he played donald trump in the assault on the Capitol on January 6, 2021.

Trump’s hearing “was continuing” into the afternoon, the committee’s chairman confirmed to CNN. bennie thompson.

“He answers the questions. That is, without going too far, but he answers,” he said, adding that he does not know if he at any time availed himself of his right to remain silent.

“He came of his own free will, that has significant value,” he added.

The daughter of the former president, who was an adviser to her father when he was in White Housewas not summoned to appear but in January she was invited to do so before this committee of the House of Representatives, made up mostly of Democrats.

The congressmen said they had evidence showing that Ivanka had tried to convince her father to ask for an end to the violence when a crowd of supporters of the former president stormed the Congress to prevent the congressmen from certifying the victory of Joe Biden.

Members of Congress are interested in “any conversation” she witnessed or participated in, especially a phone call from donald trump on January 6 in the morning.

It is believed that on that day he tried to force the then vice president, mike penceto stop the counting of the votes that was going to validate Biden’s victory in the November 2020 elections.

“You were in the Oval Office and witnessed at least part of this telephone conversation,” Bennie Thompson said in her letter of invitation.

This commission has already questioned nearly 800 witnesses, including Jared Kushner, the husband of Ivanka Trump, last week for six hours via video conference. Kushner was also an adviser to the former president.

His testimony has been “useful” to the commission, according to one of its members, Elaine Luria.

The US press has recently spread several revelations about the months leading up to the assault.

Virginia Thomas, conservative activist and wife of Supreme Court justice Clarence ThomasFor example, he sent more than 20 messages between November 2020 and January 2021 to Mark Meadows, Donald Trump’s chief of staff, imploring him to block a Biden victory.

Kushner’s name appears on one of them, sent on November 13.

The US press also revealed a gap of nearly eight hours in phone calls made by donald trump from the White House on January 6, 2021, particularly during the period when protesters forced their way into the Capitol.

According to the commission, Trump could have used unofficial channels, such as prepaid phones that are difficult to trace. The former president flatly denied it.

The committee is completing the investigation and plans to hold public hearings. He wants to finish before the mid-term elections in November. If the Democrats lose control of the House of Representatives in these elections, they run the risk that the Republicans will dissolve the commission.
