Israel prepares a plan to build 4,427 homes in Jewish settlements in occupied west bankdenounced the Israeli NGO Peace Now.

Total 2,791 homes received final authorization of the Civil Administration Planning Committee and 1,636 units were granted initial approval, said Paz Now, a non-governmental organization that closely follows the settlement process.

This report on plans to increase the occupation of the West Bank was leaked at a time of heightened tensions over the death of well-known Palestinian journalist Shireen Abu Akleh while covering an Israeli army operation in the Jenin refugee camp.

About 475,000 Israeli settlers live in the West Bankwhere there are 2.9 million Palestinians.

This colonization process is illegal under international law and has been upheld by every Israeli government since 1967.

This week, before the approval of the plan, the United States expressed its opposition and the State Department’s deputy spokeswoman, Jalina Porter, said that “Israel’s plan to expand settlements deeply damages the prospects for a two-state solution.”
