Israel begins vaccinating children ages 5 to 11 against Covid-19

Israel began Monday night his vaccination campaign for children between 5 and 11 years old, following the example of countries such as USA and Austria struggling to contain outbreaks of the pandemic.

The Israeli government had planned to launch the campaign of vaccination hoping to prevent an eventual fifth wave, but since Monday night the administration of doses for the little ones has started, confirmed an AFP team at a clinic in Tel Aviv.

“It is normal to doubt, it is not an easy decision to make (…) but after having consulted the data and information on millions of children vaccinated in USA, we made the decision to have the children vaccinated, “Heli Nave, a mother who had come to the clinic, explained to AFP.

Israel was one of the first countries to launch in December 2020 a rapid campaign of vaccination, favored by a million-dose deal with the pharmaceutical giant Pfizer in exchange for data on the effect of vaccines.

Currently, more than 5.7 million of its almost 9 million inhabitants have the double standard. More than four million even have a booster dose.

The authorities first lowered the age of vaccination to 12 years and now they do it to five. To promote this new campaign, Prime Minister Naftali Bennett will take his son for an inoculation on Tuesday.
