Is the Covid-19 pandemic over? April 2022 is placed among the months with the lowest number of deaths and infections

April 2022 could be remembered in Mexico as the month in which the light began to appear after two years of covid-19 pandemic that until the cut of April 25 registered an official balance of 324,134 deaths and 5 million 733,925 confirmed infections.

Based on data reported by the Health Secretary Last Monday, during the first 25 days of the fourth month of the year, 74,390 confirmed infections of the coronavirus were reported, while in the case of deaths, a daily average of less than 50 deaths from this disease was recorded.

It should be remembered that on Thursday, April 7, the federal agency added 32,216 infections to its registry. Covid-19of which 89.6% corresponded to a migration of extemporaneous cases carried out by the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) and whose date of onset of symptoms had been in 2021, according to an explanatory note from the Secretariat.

Mexico would transit to an endemic state of Covid-19

The undersecretary of Prevention and Health Promotion, Hugo Lopez-Gatell explained on the morning of April 26 that “a minimum number of cases is maintained,” so the country would be transitioning to the endemic state.

“The SARS-CoV-2 virus It will not go away from humanity, just as almost none of the respiratory viruses that have caused epidemics, including influenza, have gone away. And we have to move from the epidemic state that maintains us with a series of special measures, to a state of living with the virus in its characteristics, technically we call that state endemic; that is, to live with the virus”, warned López-Gatell, and urged the population that has not yet been vaccinated against Covid-19 to go to health centers to receive the doses that are still pending.

The federal official stressed that the occupation of general beds for the care of patients with Covid-19 it has remained at 3% and 1% in ventilated beds. He highlighted that mortality due to the disease caused by the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 it has been reduced in the last three months and remains at minimum figures.

López-Gatell announced that this week would be the last time that the Ministry of Health would participate in President López Obrador’s morning conference with the segment “The Pulse of Health” and announced that the federal government would no longer update the sepidemiological traffic light of Covid-19which kept the 32 entities of the country in green.

In this last report, the specialist presented a summary of the behavior of the Covid-19 pandemic in Mexico. He highlighted that there were 4 waves (epidemic peaks) of coronavirus in the country; in the first wave, he said, the epidemic curve was extremely flat, compared to other countries; the second wave, which was mostly represented by the Delta variant, was aggressive for registered deaths and hospitalizations.

The fourth rally caused mainly by the Omicron variant of Covid-19 was three times bigger than the third wave, but thanks to the coverage of vaccination against Covid-19the number of hospitalizations and deaths were “considerably” lower, he said.

Four days after the end of April, the Health Secretary announced that it would no longer issue its technical report on a daily basis detailing the evolution of the covid-19 pandemicInstead, starting next Monday, this information will be published every Monday on a weekly basis.
