Culiacán, Sinaloa, April 19, 2022.- To protect our forests, take advantage of ecosystems and their natural resources, Governor Rubén Rocha Moya led the reinstatement of the State Forestry Council, an interdisciplinary body in which the State Government, City Councils, CONAFOR, Sedena and research and higher education institutions, which starts with a budget of four million pesos.

To carry out the reinstallation of said Council, the state president invited the director of the National Forestry Commission, Luis Meneses Murillo, to Sinaloa, who was in charge of taking protests from all the members of the organization, also in the presence of the commander of the Ninth Military Zone, General Héctor Ávila Alcocer, and 10 mayors, in whose municipalities there are forest reserves.

In his message, Governor Rocha emphasized the need to take care of our forests, which he considered essential in view of the recurrent droughts that plague the state, and added that this year’s is already wreaking havoc, as storage is very low. of water in the dams, while for human consumption, water has already begun to be supplied in tankers to rural communities.

For this reason, he considered very important the installation of this State Forestry Council, which is not by chance that it is being done at this time, where other ravages derived from the drought are being suffered, such as forest fires, since there are currently two incidents in the areas mountains, one in Choix and another in Badiraguato, which the brigades are fighting to control, although a third in San Ignacio has already been completely suppressed.

Regarding the devastation caused by the fires, Governor Rocha referred to the double benefit generated by one of the emblematic programs of the Fourth Transformation headed by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, such as Sembrando Vida, because in addition to replenishing thousands of hectares of timber and fruit trees in favor of the balance of the ecosystem, is a social support for the inhabitants of the small mountain communities, who receive cash for these reforestation tasks.

It was up to the Secretary of Welfare and Sustainable Development, Ruth Díaz Gurría, to explain the reasons for the reinstatement of the State Forestry Council, which was born with a budget of four million pesos already authorized by Governor Rocha, reaffirming its commitment to the preservation of ecosystems.

On the other hand, Secretary Díaz Gurría announced that according to CONAFOR data, specifically in Sinaloa, 11 of these disasters have been registered, which affected a thousand hectares in the municipalities of Badiraguato, Sinaloa, Choix, San Ignacio and Concordia. .

He pointed out that for the fight against forest fires in Sinaloa there are eight brigades already formed and equipped, in addition to a brigade that the federal government has permanently stationed in Choix.
