INM asks leaders of the migrant caravan to allow members to be regularized

The Migration’s national institute (INM) pointed out this Sunday that the leader of the organization United Migrants People, Irineo Mujica Arzate, and the coordinator of the Center for Human Dignification AC, Luis Rey García Villagrán, do not allow the regularization of the stay of the members of the migrant caravan that left last Saturday, October 23, from Tapachula, Chiapas, and that today is located in the municipality of Mapstepec.

“However, the INM warns of the risk that represents for the migrant population that makes up this caravan that the leaders convince them to continue advancing at the cost of their physical exhaustion, health problems, exposure to extreme temperatures and poor nutrition,” warned the agency .

The INM, dependent on the Interior Ministry (Segob), called for the responsibility of those who call themselves leaders of the caravan to allow them to be transferred to safe places, where they are given the immigration documentation that proves their legal stay, as well as accommodation and food spaces in open-door shelters .

“It is irresponsible that, due to the decisions of two people who call themselves leaders of the caravan, an agreement is not reached for the authority to provide foreigners with regular immigration status, food and accommodation, as a consequence of the detriment of physical integrity for being exposed to diverse risks ”, said the INM.

He argued that in the authority’s meetings with the organization’s leader United Migrants People and the coordinator of the Center for Human Dignification AC the National Human Rights Commission (CNDH) and its state simile.

“The INM reiterates the call to the people who claim to represent the caravan, to assume responsibility and facilitate the provision of dignified attention and the care that the approximately 1,200 foreign migrants that make up this contingent deserve,” he said.
