Inflation, a challenging factor for trade in Querétaro: Canaco

Querétaro, Qro. The behavior of inflation during the year is a challenging factor for local commerce, both for the end of the year and for the start of 2022.

The president of the local National Chamber of Commerce, Services and Tourism (Canaco Servytur), Fabián Camacho Arredondo, stressed that there is concern that the high level of inflation inhibits consumption.

“Something challenging for the following year will have to do a lot with the part of supplies that are still pending, the inflationary impact that is had on some products,” he commented.

Therefore, he fought to encourage local consumption, as a strategy to reduce the inflationary effects.

“From the chamber, we promote that purchases be made in Queretaro stores, for this we are articulating strengthening and competitiveness programs for local businesses, so that they can be linked to the supply chains both for the industry and for the supply chains and suppliers of the state governments. and municipal. And that Querétaro buy in Querétaro ”, he declared.

The rise in prices is also present in materials and supplies for the construction industry, even in double digits, the representative explained.

The increase in prices in the local environment, he added, is having an impact on the increase in transportation costs, the global logistics crisis, the shortage of supplies, among other factors that put pressure on trade.

“It is a global phenomenon that has an impact because it makes it impossible to continue guaranteeing prices to our customers, this could impact a reduction in consumption, derived from the rise in prices, it violates the process of economic strengthening that we are having. At least for Querétaro we see the inflationary impact with the possibility of directly impacting the consumer between January and February ”, he declared.

The local delegation of the chamber is in talks with counterparts from the Bajío region, in order to determine strategies to keep consumption active. The local leader estimated that inflation will close the year between 5 and 6% per year.

Economic opening

However, the last quarter of the year concludes positively for the tertiary sector, as it has a consumption inertia that began with the Days of the Dead bridge, as well as the influence of the greater opening of economic units with the entry into force of modified Scenario A, in addition to progress in the national vaccination strategy.

According to the businessman, these elements would allow tertiary activities to close in 2021 with an annual growth of 8%, based on the chamber’s projections.

From January to October, the state registers an inflation of 5.80%, the monthly average of inflation in that period was around 0.57%, details the National Consumer Price Index (INPC). While in the same period of 2020 it was 1.79% and the average rate was around 0.18% on a monthly basis.
