Inai asks the Presidency to reveal the tools it implemented to detect bots and cyber-carrying in networks

The National Institute of Transparency, Access to Information and Protection of Personal Data (inai) instructed the Office of the Presidency of the Republic to disclose the tools used to detect accounts robots and cybercarrying on social networks, a fact revealed in the morning conference of the President of Mexico, in the section “Who is who in the lies of the week”, on February 16, 2022.

In this regard, an individual requested to know the tools that were used to detect accounts bots and cyber carry and thus carry out the analysis that Ana García Vilchis, in charge of the “Who’s who in the lies of the week” section, presented at the conference on February 16, 2022.

The Presidency of the Republic responded that he had used the methodology of the Poynter Instituterecommended by the rapporteur on freedom of expression of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights to identify reliable sources in a fact check, used to unmask viral disinformation and decide if a statement is actually verified.

However, the applicant complained to the inaipointing out that the response of the regulated entity does not correspond to what was requested in relation to the tools that were used to detect accounts bots, cyber carry and the analysis that was carried out in this regard.

In the analysis of the case, in charge of the presentation of the commissioner Adrian Alcala Mendez, it was determined that although the obligated party indicated to the appellant the methodology that was used; the truth is that it did not provide the specific information requested, regarding the tools and the analysis that was carried out of the information that was disclosed in the morning conference.
