Police charged a man with driving under the influence of an overnight accident in Penetanguishene, Ontario.

At approximately 4:40 a.m. Tuesday, officers were called to the scene of the accident on Champlain Road in the Military Road area, where there was a destroyed pickup truck and a broken telephone pole.

Police spoke with the man who claimed to be the driver of the vehicle involved in the accident. According to officers, he showed signs of alcoholism and had minor injuries.

Police arrested the man and sent him to the detachment to have his breath samples taken.

Joshua Lachapelle, 24, of Penetanguishene, was later charged with dangerous driving, driving while intoxicated and driving with a blood alcohol concentration of more than 80 milligrams.

Lachapelle’s license was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for seven days.

He was released and will appear in court in November.
