An off-duty Vancouver police officer and nurse were unable to save the life of a shooting victim in Maple Ridge Thursday afternoon.

Ridge Meadows RCMP were called out to reports of several shots fired in the area of ​​21300-block of 124th Avenue around 2 pm The officer and nurse who were in the area tried life-saving measures on the victim but he died on scene.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has taken over the murder probe. The RCMP serious crime unit and support team, along with IHIT members, were still at the scene late Thursday afternoon.
