Identified, possible perpetrators of the migrant tragedy

The undersecretary of Human Rights of the Ministry of the Interior, Alejandro Encinas, maintained that the trailer that overturned last Thursday, with more than 160 migrants inside and for which 55 people lost their lives, did not go through any checkpoint while supporting the work carried out by the head of the INM.

After presenting a report on three years of work by the Undersecretary of Human Rights, Encinas Rodríguez stated that “in the Chiapa de Corzo-Tuxtla Gutiérrez section there is no checkpoint of the National Institute of Migration.”

In addition to indicating that the alleged perpetrators of both the transfer of the migrants and the rollover have already been identified and that the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) has already opened an investigation in this regard.

Likewise, it indicated that authorities have already identified the route through which the heavy unit passed, and it has been determined that it was an irregular section used by criminal groups that are dedicated to trafficking in persons, which is why the absence of checkpoints in this zone.

Meanwhile, Encinas Rodríguez showed his support for Francisco Garduño, head of the National Institute of Migration (INM), stating that “he is fulfilling his responsibility and will continue in his functions.”

Encinas accepted that among society there is a perception that the Mexican authorities are not in solidarity with migrants, but assured that this image is encouraged “sometimes” by the media.

“We have almost 700,000 regularized people in the three years that our country has been in office,” he said.

Zerón case

On another issue, the official revealed that yesterday he asked the FGR for a report on the status of the documentation necessary for the extradition of Tomás Zerón for the crimes of forced disappearance, for the Ayotzinapa case, as well as for the embezzlement of up to 1,000 million euros. pesos of the then Attorney General’s Office and for which he is also appointed.

In this context, when presenting his report, the federal official recognized the serious problem of impunity that the country is experiencing, in addition to indicating actions to combat it in the rest of the six-year term.

He also spoke about the responsibilities of the Mexican State in this crisis “given the omissions and lack of action of previous governments that for many years wanted to hide the serious situation we are going through in different areas of our country.”

While it reported that in these three years 2.198 million pesos were allocated to infrastructure and capacities in the field of human rights; 1,247 million were to strengthen the capacities of the state search commissions.

Another 510 million for the construction of justice for women; 349 million for alerts on violence against women; 75 million for civil registries; and 779 million pesos that the Executive Commission for Attention to Victims (CEAV) has given as aid to victims and 488 million for compliance with the sentences of international organizations.
