A hunter in his 40s died and two others were treated for hypothermia after the barge they were on capsized in the St. Lawrence River near Ste-Croix in the Chaudière-Appalaches region, 225 kilometers from Montreal.
Emergency services were called around 7 a.m. Sunday after the barge that was being used to hunt ducks capsized where the St. Lawrence meets the Rivière du Nord.
A man in his 20s and another in his 40s were able to swim to shore. The third hunter, wearing a life jacket, was found floating in the river around 11:30 a.m. M.
The barge remained in the river, apparently stuck in shallow water, said Sergeant de la Sûreté du Québec. Louis-Philippe Bibeau.
