Hoteliers in the Mexican Caribbean anticipate 100% occupancy for July

In the summer of 2019, prior to the health crisis, the Mexican Caribbean reported 3.9 million visitors, with an economic benefit of 3,238 million dollars, according to the Quintana Roo Tourism Secretariat.

In that season, hoteliers reported a peak occupancy of up to 88%, due to vacation rental platforms, one of the main problems in the hotel sector, they did not achieve 100% occupancy.

Occupancy plummeted to practically zero as of the second week of March 2020 and only until June 2021 was the beginning of the recovery declared with the partial opening of some hotels, as well as the Cancun beaches.

However, at least eight large hotels in Cancun and Puerto Morelos are still closed, totaling 1,022 rooms, which have not been able to be reopened since the Covid-19 pandemic began.
