Hockey Canada Announces World Youth Hockey Team Selection Camp List | The Canadian News

Forwards Ridly Greig and defenders Owen Power and Kaiden Guhle top the list for Canada’s 35-player selection camp for the 2022 men’s youth hockey world championships.

Hockey Canada will select its 25-player roster after selection camp December 9-12 in Calgary.

Canada opens the IIHF men’s under-20 tournament on December 26 against the Czech Republic in Edmonton.

Red Deer, Alta., Is a co-host city. Austria, Germany and Finland are also in the Canadian group.

The field selection roster was chosen by Hockey Canada Director of Players Personnel Alan Millar and Under-20 Management Group Leader James Boyd.

Canada will bring three goalkeepers to Edmonton, with Brett Brochu of the London Knights, Dylan Garand of the Kamloops Blazers and Sebastian Cossa of the Edmonton Oil Kings representing Canada.

Guhle of the Prince Albert Raiders was a member of the Canadian squad that lost 2-0 to the United States in the 2021 World Youth Finals in Edmonton. Manitoba Moose center Cole Perfetti, who was included on this year’s draft camp roster, was also on that team.

Power, a defender from the University of Michigan, has already won gold at the men’s world championship with Canada in June in Riga, Latvia.

He was included on the pick field list last year, but the Wolverines did not hand him over to Hockey Canada.

Greig, a first-round pick for the Ottawa Senators, has 12 goals, 11 assists in 16 games this season for the Brandon Wheat Kings.

Regina Pats forward Connor Bedard, 16, and Kingston Frontenacs forward Shane Wright, 17, were also among the guests at draft camp.

Ottawa 67 head coach Dave Cameron will coach Canada in Edmonton. He was also head coach in 2011, when Canada lost the final 5-3 to Russia, in Buffalo, NY.

Canada will play pre-tournament exhibition matches on December 19 against Switzerland, on December 20 against Sweden and on December 22 against Russia.

Edmonton was the host city for the 2021 tournament, which was played without fans due to COVID-19. Fully vaccinated ticket buyers can attend the games in Edmonton and Red Deer.
