Chief medical officer of health Dr. Deena Hinshaw will give an update on Alberta’s COVID-19 situation Wednesday.

Hinshaw is scheduled to speak alongside health minister Jason Copping at 3:30 pm

The weekly update comes as wastewater data suggests Edmonton is past the latest peak of COVID infections, and the amount of virus circulating in the city is on a decline. Wastewater tracking has become an important part of monitoring the pandemic, since most people can no longer get a PCR test in Alberta, and instead check for COVID on a rapid-antigen test at home.

Alberta has continued to regularly record deaths due to COVID — last week, Hinshaw reported an average of nine per day over the previous week.

Hospitalizations also increased last week, and as of last Wednesday, there were more than 400 people in hospital with COVID in the Alberta Health Services Edmonton zone.
