Health unit reports three COVID deaths

Three more Windsor-Essex residents have lost their lives to COVID-19.

The local health unit on Monday reported the COVID-related deaths of a woman in her 60s and two men in their 70s. All three lived in the general community.

To date, COVID has claimed 565 area residents, including 70 who’ve died since Jan. 1.

Area hospitals have 70 COVID patients. Ten of them are in intensive care.

Outbreaks remain active at 21 long-term care and retirement homes, eight hospital units, 22 community settings, and 11 workplaces.

Since Friday, another 360 high-risk COVID-19 cases were recorded in Windsor-Essex, including 137 on Saturday, 107 on Sunday, and 116 on Monday.

So far, nearly 52 per cent of local adults have received three doses of COVID-19 vaccine. More than 81 per cent of residents ages five and up have received two doses.
