Growing insecurity and violence experienced by women in Mexico is “unacceptable”: Coparmex


The president of the Employers’ Confederation of the Mexican Republic (Coparmex), José Medina Mora, described as “unacceptable” the situation of insecurity and violence experienced by women in Mexico, in which 10 women are reported murdered and 7 missing on a daily basis.

“The violence that they (women) experience is underestimated. Mexico Evaluates estimated (considering data from the Inegi National Urban Security Survey and comparing them with data on criminal incidence from the Executive Secretariat), that the black figure for crimes such as harassment, sexual harassment and sexual abuse is 99.9%. While the black figure for rape cases is 97.3%”, explained the business representative.

Meanwhile, during the first quarter of 2022, 5,315 complaints of rapes against women were registered, that is, the registration of 2 rapes per hour. In addition to 56,224 complaints of family violence, highlighted the president of the National Security and Justice Commission of CoparmexIgnacio Manjarrez.



“We are all called to do our part to stop violence against women; The first step is making it visible and supporting the victims. Not to ignore this painful situation, but to contribute everything we can from our sector to stop it”, argued the president of the Coparmex.

In the same period, 10 women were killed each day and in total 15,032 have been injured. “The fourth largest number of women victims of murder was registered for a similar period since the beginning of the registry (in 2015)”, he added.

On the other hand, the study of Coparmex He highlighted that in Nuevo León the number of femicides increased by 82%, from having 17 cases, to 31, in the first quarter compared to the same period in 2021.

“We raise our voice so that the authorities of the 3 orders, and so that the Judicial Power do what corresponds to them; It is not about having more laws, but about ensuring that the laws we already have are complied with; It is about putting an end to impunity and making it clear that whoever attacks a woman attacks society as a whole and their actions have consequences. It is about that we all join in this fight, as citizens, as companies, we want to do it, we have a lot to contribute”, highlighted Medina Mora.
