Grey’s Recap: Better Stressed Out — Also, Mer makes a decision on Minnesota

Breathe, Bailey! Breathe! on thursday Grey’s Anatomythe threat of losing Meredith to The Clinic combined with The visit of an accreditation board to Gray Sloan to decide the fate of the residency program pushed Miranda to what seemed like the brink of another heart attack. How worried did we have to be? And did Mer really have one foot out the door? she keeps reading…

Grays Anatomy recap season 18 episode 15 put it to the test‘GO IMPRESS SOMEONE’ | As the episode began, Bailey mentally braced herself for what promised to be a particularly difficult day. Nick arrived at Gray Sloan in Catherine’s private jet and limousine with a kidney for transplant. Helm visited Levi’s mom to tell her that she had to take the evaluation to help save the residency program. “If you have any fight in you, any at all,” she pleaded, “get up.” Back at the hospital, Bailey and Richard prepared their colleagues for the interviews. But no, they told Maggie, they couldn’t be told who had complained about the show. (We’d find out soon enough.) Richard was scheduled to be interviewed first, but gave up: it was time for his doctor to evaluate him…for David and Kai, of all people!

Grays Anatomy recap season 18 episode 15 put it to the testIn the grand rounds, the residents learned from Mer and Nick that the aforementioned kidney was being donated to a brain-dead patient. Hope for? A pig kidney. Suddenly, the whippersnappers were into innovative procedure. If it worked, it would be bigger than big! When the brain-dead patient’s wife showed up at the hospital, she was desperate to see him. But if she walked into the room, it would be game over for the procedure. So Nick held her while she cried. Saddest still, it soon appeared that the procedure had not worked.

Grays Anatomy recap season 18 episode 15 put it to the test“YOU’RE TRYING TO SCALD MEREDITH GREY!” | Before Richard’s evaluation, Amelia wished him luck, in doing so revealing that Kai had told her. Alone with her new lover, Amelia didn’t exactly say that she was lying about the results, but she impressed on Kai that it was important to the hospital that she approved. As her tests began, she seemed to do well. Even David assured Richard that slowing down a bit was very different from being a hazard in the OR. But as they talked about the difficulty of finding a replacement for doctors as good as they are, Richard deduced that David was trying to steal Mer. You can bet! “The offer nearly broke the clinic’s budget,” Hamilton admitted.

Grays Anatomy recap season 18 episode 15 put it to the testAt Levi’s mother’s house, Schmitt confronted his mother after discovering that she had posted all over the internet, blaming Gray Sloan for killing a patient when he was still basically a trainee. It wasn’t his fault, she argued, it was theirs for putting him in that situation. And just like that, he fell down a flight of stairs! And just when it seemed that Levi was getting his courage back from him! He immediately called 911, but it soon became clear that he would have to spring into action himself before the ambulance arrived. Needing advice, he called out to Richard, interrupting his assessment. With Webber on the line, Levi cut his mother off to save her life. Just then the ambulance arrived to take Mama Schmitt to Gray Sloan.

Grays Anatomy recap season 18 episode 15 put it to the test‘MY HUSBAND LEFT ME AND I HAD A NERVE BLOCK’ | As the accreditation team toured the hospital with Bailey, they encountered residents who were excited about the opportunity to work with Meredith, a weird opportunity, said an adviser. As the interviews progressed, Maggie and Winston were questioned about their relationship, including the one the team imagined they had had when she was their teacher. Owen and Teddy were questioned about the deaths of soldiers exposed to burning pits. Link answered a question with a comment about his sad, sad life as a single father. Jo tried to sing Bailey’s praises, but the team went to great lengths to turn her life choices against her. However, Jo wasn’t having it. She put them right in her place. Thanks to a tip from Richard, Bailey confronted Mer about leaving Gray Sloan for Minnesota. “You are still the same girl who continues to assist her, her married attending,” Miranda spat. “Why do you talk to me this way?” Gray challenged her. Nick is “here doing us a favor!” Suddenly, Bailey looked… dazed… like she wasn’t sure what was going on.

Grays Anatomy recap season 18 episode 15 put it to the test‘EVERYTHING IS MY FAULT!’ | As the hour drew to a close, Meredith marveled at the way Bailey had reached out to her. “I love her,” Gray told Nick. “I don’t like her very much right now, but I love her.” At the time, Jordan reported that the brain-dead patient had taken a turn…not for the better exactly, but it seemed the procedure might have worked after all. Nearby, Maggie was able to assure Bailey that she had not had another cardiac event. But she was he was heading for one if he kept going full steam as he was. Along the way, Bailey accidentally blurted out that Mer was possibly moving to Minnesota. Outside, Link found Amelia and Kai talking, leading to one of the most awkward introductions ever. Fortunately, at that moment, Levi arrived in the ambulance with his mother. Schitt quickly explained to Webber that his mother had been the one to jeopardize the residency program, then she sobbed in her mentor’s arms … as a counselor looked on.

Grays Anatomy recap season 18 episode 15 put it to the test‘THE SENSE OF FAMILY IS COMPLETELY PALPABLE’ | Finally, Bailey and Richard reminisced about days spent at Gray Sloan when he met with the accreditation team. At the same time, Levi talked to David. “When I was a resident, I thought saving a life was the highest calling I could aspire to,” Webber said, “so I started teaching.” Schmitt wanted David to know that no matter what Richard’s tests revealed, he was the best. Even that very day, he had helped Schmitt save his mother’s life. “I don’t even want to think about what could have happened without him.” If the accreditation team wanted Richard to resign to keep the program going, even if he didn’t want to, he would. With that, Richard went and finished David and Kai’s tests, passing them. Amelia then happily reported that Mama Schmitt would make it. “Not everyone gets another chance in the OR,” David told Richard. “Take advantage of.” Recovering, Bailey offered to show the advisors some more. However, there was no need. Gray Sloan’s surgical program was one of the best they had ever seen. But, oh, oh, there was a “but”: the hospital did not have enough doctors to maintain a residency program. Therefore, he would be put to the test and given the opportunity to make changes. If Bailey couldn’t do it, and quickly, the show would be shut down, under her supervision. At least Nick’s transplant had been a success, and he was finally able to let the poor brain-dead man’s wife say goodbye. “I’m definitely ready to start over,” Mer told Nick. “I will accept that offer.”
