Grande Cache woman dies after accident near Beaverlodge

A 36-year-old Grande Cache woman was killed after a frontal collision four kilometers east of Beaverlodge, Alta. Monday afternoon.

Shortly after 5:15 pm, Beaverlodge RCMP responded to the accident involving an SUV and pickup truck along Highway 43 near Highway 723. Wembley and Beaverlodge Fire Services and EMS were also on the scene.

RCMP investigators revealed that the driver was heading west on Highway 43, while a male driver was moving east before the head-on collision.

The woman was airlifted to the Grande Prairie area hospital by STARS in critical condition where she later died of her injuries. 62-year-old male driver from Hythe, Alta. He was taken to the hospital where he remains with non-life threatening injuries.

Mounts say traffic was redirected for several hours as officers, along with RCMP collision reconstructionists, completed an investigation at the crash site.

Beaverlodge RCMP is asking anyone with information about the accident to call 780-354-2955, local police or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 if they wish to remain anonymous.

Beaverlodge is about 498 miles from Edmonton.
