Governor General Mary Simon’s Office Says Her Internal Network Was Hacked

Ottawa – Governor. General Mary Simon’s office has confirmed it was the target of a hacking attempt and announced an incident of “unauthorized access to its internal network” on Thursday.

The Office of the Secretary of the Governor General (OSGG) says it is working with the Canadian Center for Cybersecurity to investigate the matter, including taking immediate steps to strengthen its network.

“While the nature and scope of the violation is still under investigation, the OSGG continues its work with experts and seeks further improvements to the network as needed. Additionally, OSGG has been in communication with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner in response to this incident, ”a press release states.

The office is primarily responsible for supporting the governor general in the fulfillment of her constitutional, state, and ceremonial duties. The office also plans and implements the Governor General’s schedule of activities, including those related to her role as Commander-in-Chief of Canada.
