Government of Mexico maintains communication with at least 90 people in Ukraine to transfer them to Romania: Ebrard

The Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Marcelo Ebrard Casaubón, reported this Saturday morning that the federal government is in communication with approximately 90 people in Ukraine so that they can be transferred to Romania “as soon as possible.”

“Olga García Guillén (Mexico’s ambassador to Ukraine) reports to me that she continues to work from the residence in Mexico. They hear detonations. There is a curfew so she cannot move vehicles. We are in communication with approximately 90 people to move them to Romania as soon as possible,” the foreign minister wrote on his Twitter account.

Ebrard also shared on the microblogging network images of the Mexican families that since Friday night arrived at Romania with the protection of the diplomatic network of our country.

“The first Mexican families assisted by the ongoing protection protocol arrived in Romania. Very happy, the Air Force plane will bring them home,” said the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

On the afternoon of Friday, February 25, the foreign minister announced that the Government of Mexico would send a military plane to evacuate Mexicans residing in Ukraine, after Russia launched a military offensive against this territory at dawn on Thursday.

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador “has arranged for a special flight of the Mexican Air Force to be carried out to Romania to transport the families that we are evacuating from Ukraine and wish to be repatriated to our country,” Ebrard wrote yesterday on the social network.

A first group of 22 Mexicans left yesterday by bus for the border with Romaniawhere they were expected by the ambassador in Bucharest, as reported by the foreign minister

“It was quite a negotiation that the owner of the bus did not cancel them,” Ebrard added in another tweet.

The Mexican Foreign Ministry It had registered a little more than 200 nationals residing in Ukraine. A first group of 32 was taken out of Kiev last week.
