Government engineers will be on an indefinite general strike

The Professional Association of Government Engineers of Quebec (APIGQ) on Friday submitted to the government a notice of an indefinite general strike, which will begin on April 22.

This decision came in response to the salary offer tabled the day before.

“After all the work done to document the glaring problem of the Government’s lack of expertise in engineering, we had the reasonable expectation that a start of wage catch-up would be carried out,” said Marc-André Martin in a press release. , president of the APIGQ.

“Unfortunately, it is now clear that the Treasury Board has no budget for that. I find it hard to believe!”

Despite the unlimited general strike, the APIGQ intends to continue negotiations.

“In the context of economic recovery, the last thing the industry wants is to have a major labor dispute that delays the start of work,” assured the professional organization.

Founded in 1986, APIGQ represents more than 1,800 engineers working within the Quebec government.
