“Especially with clay,” he said. “By talking to our supplier, they have sold more ovens than ever. And they are selling smaller ovens because people make it at home because of COVID. “
Petitjean said she thinks people are looking for that practical connection and said creative activities like pottery can help with stress and anxiety.
“It’s very relaxing,” Petitjean said. “You can think of it as a yoga practice, everything is fluid.”
He said the class has become so popular this year that they are adding a winter period in both pottery and blacksmithing.

Raine Knudsen with Peterborough School of Art in Peterborough, Ontario, said several people have been calling to sign up for classes and workshops.
“Art is healing,” he said. “I think people are really taking advantage of that.”
He said he thinks people are looking for that creative outlet.
“Everyone has their own reasons for making art,” Knudsen said. “I don’t think it’s a reaction to anything, but I think it’s a conscious response to your own well-being.”
