Gatineau woman, 29, charged with human trafficking and sex crimes

A 29-year-old Gatineau woman was arrested last week and charged with human trafficking and other sex crimes, police said Tuesday.

A news release states that Valérie Séguin, 29, was arrested on January 26 at a residence on Avenue de Buckingham and appeared in court on Tuesday.

Charges in the case include: trafficking in persons under 18 years of age; material advantage linked to human trafficking; material benefit from the provision of sexual services to a person under 18 years of age; advertising of sexual services; procuring; utter threats; aggravated assault causing bodily harm; assault; and incitement to sexual contact.

The crimes allegedly took place between January 6 and 18.

The investigation continues and more charges may be filed, the statement said, adding that police had “reason to believe there may be other victims.”
