On Sunday afternoon, a crowd of mourners filled the public funeral service for Gabby Petito – the blogger who was murdered – held on Long Island, near where Petito grew up in Blue Point, New York.

The last: The service was live-streamed online and featured a wall in the chapel at Moloney’s Holbrook Funeral Home, decorated with photos of the young woman. An altar at the front of the chapel was covered with flowers and memorial candles.

  • Petito’s parents and relatives were seated in the front row of the chapel where they received condolences from friends, relatives, and strangers.
  • Residents of Blue Point honored the girl by lighting the city streets with thousands of memorial candles.
  • People moved by her story gathered in North Port, Florida, in front of the home of Brian Laundrie, her fiancé, to convey a message to the family that they want justice for Petito.

What do they say? “I want you to take a look at these photos and be inspired by Gabby. If there is a trip you want to do, do it now. Do it, while you have time. If you are in a relationship that may not be the best for you, leave it now, ”Petito’s father said at the service.

  • “As I go through all of (Gabby’s) posts, my heart is full of love,” wrote Nicole Schmidt, mother of the blogger, on Facebook.
  • Joseph Petito announced Saturday the creation of the Gabby Petito Foundation, which he said will provide resources and guidance to the families of missing children.
  • “No one should have to find their child on their own,” he wrote on Twitter, “we seek to help people in situations similar to Gabby’s.”
