Two weeks after receiving a life-saving donation of part of her son’s liver, Windsor’s Jody Jackson is recovering in a Toronto hospital, and her son Nate has been released from hospital but remains in Toronto undergoing follow-up tests.

“Surgery (on June 8) went well, everyone is doing pretty good, trying to stay positive,” said Kailey Jackson, Jody’s daughter and Nate’s sister.

Even after Jody’s release from Toronto General Hospital, she’ll have to remain in an apartment in Toronto for months after the organ transplant to allow for ongoing follow-up tests and doctor visits. Nate is off the job for the foreseeable future as well, and Kailey’s father has been shuttling between Windsor and Toronto, missing work.

As a result, family and supporters have been fundraising to help the family financially.

The Windsor Moose Lodge at 777 Tecumseh Rd. W. is hosting an all-you-can-eat pasta dinner (including salad and roll) on Tuesday June 28 from 4 to 8 pm Moose Lodge administrator Dan Batson said all the food has been donated with 100 per cent of proceeds going to the Jackson family.

“It’s a family in need, and that’s basically what Moose is all about — helping the community,” said Batson, adding that for the same $10-per-meal price there’s takeout for those who can’t stay.

D&D Mascots is bringing Minnie Mouse to the event, and there will be door prizes, at 50/50 draw and raffle tickets. Anyone wishing to donate prizes to the event can contact organizers at [email protected] or call Dan Batson at 519-562-1137 and a board member will come to your door for pickup.

The raffle draws will be at the end of the evening, but you don’t need to be present — watch live on the Windsor Moose Lodge 1499 Facebook page.

A family member is also hosting a fundraising yard sale on June 24 to 26 at 4500 Concession 4 in Amherstburg.
