This is the full text of the statement issued by the PP, already at dawn, after the meeting of the party president, Pablo Casado, with the regional leaders:
“The president of the Popular Party, Pablo Casado, has today transferred to the autonomous presidents of this formation his decision not to attend the next National Congress, which will be convened in the Board of Directors that will be held next Tuesday, March 1.
In the course of today’s meeting, several decisions have been adopted unanimously. In the first place, the national president has been asked to continue in office until the extraordinary and urgent Congress, which they will propose to the National Board of Directors to hold on April 2 and 3.
At the proposal of the national president of the PP, also unanimously accepted, the decision has also been made to appoint the spokesperson for the Parliamentary Group in the Congress of Deputies, Cuca Gamarra Ruiz-Clavijo, as general coordinator of the party until the congress is held.
Likewise, it will be proposed to the Board of Directors that Esteban González Pons be the president of the Organizing Committee of the Congress, and that it be made up of at least one member appointed by each territorial organization.
