The popular neighborhood eatery offered its breakfast special free to moms for Mother’s Day.

Owners Sandy Lewis and her husband Mike Ferrari put a promotional sign out front a couple of weeks ago and eager families were waiting for them to unlock the door at 8 am

“We’ve got a full house with reservations and they just keep on coming,” Lewis said.

Lewis and Ferrari bought The Hideout just a few months before the COVID-19 pandemic hit, throwing the restaurant business into chaos with outright closures and capacity restrictions.

“This is our first Mother’s Day since we took over,” Lewis said. “Offering a free breakfast was actually my husband’s idea.

“I used to do it when he worked at Dominion Golf Course and it always got a nice crowd out. We wanted to do something for folks and get people out of the house.”

Normally, the breakfast griddle is turned off at 1 pm but the promotion runs the whole business day Sunday.

A number of service clubs, including the Fogolar Furlan, also offered the opportunity to pamper mom with festive holiday brunches.
