Fraudsters take advantage of the sale of Banamex to steal user data, this is how they operate

The uncertainty that exists between users and clients of Banamex for the sale of this bank that was announced last Tuesday, is already being used by criminals to try to commit fraud.

For a few days there has been a fake mail, but with logos of Citibanamex, in which it is reported that as part of the sale process of the business banking and consumption of the entity, it is required to verify data, and it is noted that if they are not updated within 24 hours, the respective account will be canceled.

Included in the email is a link that you are supposed to click on to update information requested.

Both the bank and the financial authorities have come out to warn that it is a fake email, and they call on users not to be fooled.

Citibanamex spread in social networks a message to your customers, specifying that you are not asking to verify or update their account details by telephone, email, SMS or clicking on any link.

In this sense, it is recalled that the bank does not ask for keys, passwords, or PINs by any of these means.

There are no changes in the operation

And in a notice he sent to clients by email, he detailed that in the face of the recent strategic announcement of Citi in Mexico, there are no changes in their operation or in products or services that they currently have contracted.

“Our offices, branches and all our channels will continue to serve you as always,” the bank stressed.

Remember that Banamex has been operating in the country for 137 years and will continue to do so, as evidenced by its history, tradition, strength and commitment.”

“Your confidence and security are the most important thing for us and for this reason we reiterate our commitment and professionalism in advising you, managing your assets and your financial needs”, he pointed out.

The National Commission for the Protection and Defense of Users of Financial Services (Condusef), also issued a message to the population, warning of this situation and stating that Citibanamex does not ask its users to verify or update their information by any means.

It recommends that if there is any doubt, the client and user call the bank directly.

Following the announcement of the sale of Banamex by its current owner Citigroup, concerns were raised among customers about what will happen to their loans, savings and other products and services contracted with the bank.

Given this, the institution itself and the Condusef have specified that the bank continues and will continue with its normal operations, so nothing changes in the relationship with its customers and users.
