According to the Sûreté du Québec, a collision between two cars occurred shortly before 1 a.m. when, for an unknown reason, one of the vehicles went out of its lane and collided with the vehicle coming from the opposite direction.

The driver of the first vehicle suffered serious injuries, but police said they have no fear for his life. They have reason to believe that the 24-year-old may have been driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Steps were taken to obtain a court order for the blood samples. If they test positive, charges can be brought against the man.

In the other vehicle, the driver, passenger and a child were seriously injured and taken to hospital. According to SQ spokeswoman Catherine Bernard, her conditions have stabilized.

Experts were dispatched to the scene to better understand the circumstances surrounding the accident. Route 117 was closed for several hours on Kienawisik Rd.
