Formal employment picks up 9.2% in Querétaro


Queretaro, Qro. During the first quarter of the year, 17,040 new formal jobs were created in the state of Querétaro, which represents an annual increase of 9.2% (1,435 more) in relation to the 15,605 jobs that were generated in the same period of the previous year, reports the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS).

The jobs generated in the first quarter of the year represent 51% of the total jobs reported in 2021, when they added 33,180 new jobs in the state, IMSS records expose.

In January alone, 4,481 new jobs were created, equivalent to 26.3% of the total jobs generated in the quarter; in February 8,481, which means 49.8%; and in March 4,078, which represented 23.9% of the total generated in the first quarter of the year.

Of the 17,040 new jobs created in the entity in January-March, 75.1% (12,800) are permanent jobs and 24.9% (4,240) temporary.

In March, the state of Querétaro accumulated 645,716 formal jobs before the IMSS, breaking a record for the second consecutive month in terms of the total number of jobs affiliated with social security.

In the first quarter of the year, of the total new jobs, 12,800 were permanent jobs, a figure that experienced an increase of 35.7% in relation to the same period in 2021, when 9,429 jobs of this type were incorporated.

However, casual employment fell in the last year; In the first quarter of this year, it added 4,240 temporary jobs, which represents a drop of 31.3% in relation to the same period last year, when 6,176 temporary jobs were created.

However, month after month, both employment regimes reported monthly growth, due to the incorporation of new positions. During January, permanent jobs increased 0.6% in relation to December; in February the increase was 1.2% and in March it was 0.6% monthly.

Regarding temporary jobs, in January they increased 1.4% monthly; in February 1.8% and in March 0.7% compared to the previous month.

It should be noted that it was from 2021 when Querétaro resumed the level of employment that it generated on average annually before the pandemic, and that used to be around 30,000 jobs per year.

While in 2020 the state generated only 12,423 formal jobs, after the first effects of the health contingency; for 2021 the figure closed the year with 33,180 new formal jobs.
