Faced with 5 million deaths and damage to health and well-being, ministers of External relationships agreed to move forward together to combat and end the pandemic of the Covid-19as well as building better global health security into the future.
In the Covid-19 Ministerial Conference, convened by the Secretary of State of the United States, Antony Blinken, the 20 participating ministers and ministers highlighted the need for a more equal distribution of vaccines against the SARS-CoV-2.
They also discussed the creation of global platforms to ensure sustainable financing, regional collaboration, and political leadership in the international system.
In his speech, the secretary of Foreign Relations of Mexico, Marcelo Ebrard, shared a message about the interdependence of all countries to bring down the pandemic.
In addition to thanking the donation of more than 10 million vaccines by USA, the Foreign Minister recalled that Mexico has made donations to eight countries of Latin America and the Caribbean and highlighted the manufacture of vaccines in a joint project with Argentina and AstraZeneca supporting 17 countries in the region.
“What can we do? We have to study the experience of Covax, strengthen the WHO in the short term to design a more capable organization to face the pandemics of the future ”, said the Chancellor.
“We can increase production in our countries, establish links, collaborations, public-private partnerships, is the case of Mexico, AstraZeneca and Slim Foundation, the government of Argentina and MexicoWe are all involved, there are many interested parties and collaborating, it is time to work like this ”, he added.
