Ford to halt production at Flat Rock plant due to chip shortage

Ford Motor Co. confirmed Thursday night that it will halt production next week at its Flat Rock, Michigan, plant where it assembles the Mustang due to a shortage of chips.

America’s No. 2 automaker had previously said it had planned to idle the plant for two days this week. Automotive News previously reported on production cuts.

Ford it said on Wednesday it had made some 53,000 vehicles, but they were not distributed because they were awaiting final parts delayed by chip shortages.
