Fog catchers provide water to people in Lima

Solve the water crisis with the fog. This is the solution offered to Peruvians living in one of the driest regions of the world.

The NGO “Peruvians Without Water” has helped provide “fog catchers” that catch droplets through thick blankets of swirling mist. These panels, covered with polyethylene nets, transport the droplets through a pipe to a collection tank accessible to around 20,000 inhabitants of the capital.

According to Abel Cruz, president of the “Peruvians without water”, in neighborhoods like El Trebol it is almost impossible for the government to build infrastructure to provide drinking water. However, for some families, living in this high and uninhabited part of the hills was the only option, because the prices for living in the lower part of the city were too high.

More than 1.2 million people in Lima suffer from a lack of access to water.
