When a best-of-seven series is tied 1-1, the Game 3 winner has an all-time series record of 228-110 (.675), according to NHL stats.

The Flames (50-21-11) led the Pacific Division and the Stars (46-30-6) earned the first Wild Card spot in the Western Conference.

Pavelski scored his second of the game and the first power play goal of the series for the Stars, after going 0-for-11, at 10:05 of the third period for a 3-2 Stars lead.

Pavelski grabbed a rebound from Vladislav Namestnikov’s shot for the 37-year-old’s third goal of the series. His 14th career playoff win is the most among active NHL players, according to the Stars.

Oettinger denied Calgary’s Johnny Gaudreau on a breakaway with less than four minutes left in the game.

Markstrom went to the Calgary bench with 1:40 remaining for an additional Flames attacker, but Calgary did not produce the tie.

Dallas trailing by one goal, Pavelski tied the hosts 2-2 at 11:41 into the second period.

After Markstrom’s big glove save on Stars defenseman Miro Heiskanen, Pavelski grabbed a rebound on Markstrom’s later Heiskanen shot that he caught on his right post.

Pavelski’s goals were his first in the postseason at American Airlines Arena since signing with Dallas in 2019.

The Stars reached the Stanley Cup Final in Edmonton’s 2020 playoff bubble, where they lost in six games to the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Flames build up to lead

Lindholm capped the three-in-a-row pass with a stopwatch at 3:40 of the second period for a 2-1 lead in Calgary.

Matthew Tkachuk, from behind the net, fed Gaudreau, who sent Lindholm to his knees to pass the puck to Oettinger.

Lewis and Milan Lucic combined on Calgary’s first goal at 1:45 p.m. of the period. Lewis batted in a rebound on a Lucic effort off the Oettinger gate.

Dallas coach Rick Bowness was denied a challenge due to Lucic’s goalie interference. The Stars settled the resulting minor penalty.

Faksa won the offensive zone toss and then deflected Markstrom’s Esa Lindell wrist shot for a four-on-four goal at 9:21.

Flames defenseman Oliver Kylington had fired the puck into the far post a minute earlier.

Tkachuk and Stars defenseman John Klingberg continued their series feud with a brawl 82 seconds after the initial matchup. They tangled and took matching minors in less than a minute in Game 2.

Left wing Marian Studenic was lured into the Dallas lineup for Alex Radulov in Game 3. Bowness said he made the move for “fresh legs.”
