The Catalan Ferran Vila, sommelier of La Banyeta (Palol de Revardit, Girona), has been chosen as the winner of the 27th Tierra de Sabor Sommeliers Spanish Championship. This contest, co-sponsored by Bodegas Protos, is one of the oldest in the Salón Gourmets, which this Thursday closed its 35th edition. Sommeliers Álex Pardo and Ana Casabona won silver and bronze, respectively, in this event dedicated to disseminating the art of winery management, as well as to select the best professional who will represent Spain in the ASI World Sommeliers Championship (Association of the Somellerie Internationale).

The championship consisted of two eliminatory rounds. In the semi-final, the contestants had to face to a written questionnaire, with multiple choice or development questions, and a written wine tasting. The best went to the final, which took place this Thursday. In this last phase, applicants They did a quick test, an oral wine tasting, a proof of erroneous letter, an identification of distillates, spirits and drinks and, finally, the decanting and the service of a bottle of wine. All this, before a jury made up of prestigious professionals from the world of wine.

As a novelty this year, after the 27th Spanish Tierra de Sabor Sommeliers Championship, a qualifying test was held to choose the contestants who will represent Spain in the European and World Championships. The champion of the current edition, Ferran Vila, and the first classified of the 2019 and 2020 editions, the Burgos Diego Gonzalez Barbolla and the Majorcan Gabriel Lucas Dimmock, respectively, they have undergone a series of tests to become the highest Spanish representative at European and world level. Finally, the winner was González Barbolla, who will attend the World Cup. Lucas will go to the European.
