Sochi | German Mick Schumacher and Russian Nikita Mazepin will still drive for Haas in Formula 1 in 2022, the American team confirmed Thursday, on the sidelines of the Russian Grand Prix.
As expected, Mazepin, the son of the leader of the title sponsor of Haas, Uralkali, and Schumacher, supported by Ferrari, which powers the team, “will be associated for the second year in a row,” it said in a statement.
The two 22-year-old drivers made their debut in the premier class of motorsport at the start of the 2021 season. Among the titular drivers, they are the only ones not to have scored a point for lack of a competitive car.
“We believe we can progress as a team and give Mick and Nikita a high-performance single-seater to take the next step in their Formula 1 career” next season, when brand new F1 cars hit the track, promises their Team Principal Guenther Steiner.
“This first year with Haas is exciting and instructive and I am sure that I will be able to bring all the experience that I have acquired next year”, reacts for his part the son of Michael Schumacher. “The new technical regulations, the impressive ambition of the whole team and the support from Ferrari, I believe that all of this will bring us closer to the peloton in 2022 and that we can fight for the points.”
