EU antitrust chief Margrethe Vestager calls for global approach to tech giants


Europe’s antitrust chief, Margrethe Vestagerarchitect of the historical norms to curb the power of the tech giants from USAcalled on Thursday for a global approach to big tech to prevent companies from taking advantage of loopholes.

Vestager, which has applied fines for billions of euros to Googlefrom Alphabetand has launched research on Manzana, amazon Y Facebookof the platform Goalsaid that there is global agreement on the problems posed by large digital platforms.

“This debate is no longer a hot topic among competition professionals, but it has strong political attention,” he told a conference organized by the German Competition Office.

Vestager urged antitrust watchdogs around the world to work together to address the issue.

“Close cooperation will be necessary, because we will not be short of work and we will not be short of new services or practices to examine,” he said.

“It goes without saying that the more we are able, as an international competition community, to harmonize our approach, the less opportunity global tech giants will have to take advantage of loopholes between our jurisdictions,” Vestager said.

The antitrust authorities of USA and some states in the country are also investigating Google, Facebook and Apple. The big technology companies are also in the crosshairs of South Korea, India Y Australia.
