Wei first learned of the posts a few days after Meng left Vancouver for Shenzhen on September 25. He has been receiving dozens of messages asking for information.
A post that has been circulating includes a joke speculating that Meng will “never return to Canada forever” alongside a crying and laughing emoji.
“Some even offered cash, but some are also sending very funny numbers, low offers,” Wei said. “I am eager to make it known that these posts are not true.”
None of the agents had any comment on Meng’s future plans for the houses, except that they had no hint of interest in selling them.
