Posts announcing the sale of Meng Wanzhou’s Shaughnessy mansion have been circulating on the WeChat messaging app since the Huawei Technologies Co. executive was released from house arrest and returned to China.

And a former listing agent has been getting messages and calls, even some cash offers.

But both Vancouver realtor Julie Wei, who was the listing agent, and Bob Cheng, who was the purchasing agent, of the house in 2016 when it was purchased in the name of Meng’s husband, Liu Xiaozong, say the property does not is currently for sale. in MLS or off the market.

The house, where Meng remained during his house arrest while fighting extradition to the US, has a current appraisal of $ 13.7 million and is located at 1603 Matthews Ave.

“There are a lot of people who have too much time on their hands,” Cheng said.

He is the purchasing agent who sold the couple their first home in the Dunbar area of ​​Vancouver in 2006 for $ 2.7 million and also represented them in the $ 15 million purchase of Shaughnessy’s home. He was also a guarantor who promised part of the $ 7 million bond that Meng needed as a condition of bail for her to live under house arrest during the court case.

Wei first learned of the posts a few days after Meng left Vancouver for Shenzhen on September 25. He has been receiving dozens of messages asking for information.

A post that has been circulating includes a joke speculating that Meng will “never return to Canada forever” alongside a crying and laughing emoji.

“Some even offered cash, but some are also sending very funny numbers, low offers,” Wei said. “I am eager to make it known that these posts are not true.”

None of the agents had any comment on Meng’s future plans for the houses, except that they had no hint of interest in selling them.
