More than 150 firefighters were fighting a major fire that broke out Monday mid-afternoon in the Sud-Ouest borough of Montreal.
According to firefighters, the fire started around 2:30 p.m. behind a residential building under renovation located on rue Sainte-Marie, between rue Saint-Rémi and chemin de la Côte-Saint-Paul.
The fire reportedly spread, damaging several nearby buildings.
The damage would easily amount to several hundred thousand dollars.
At the end of the afternoon, the firefighters said that the fire was now “under control, but not yet under control”.
No one was injured in the disaster, said Kevin Francoeur, section chief at the Montreal Fire Department.
However, several families have been thrown into the street and will have to be taken care of by the Red Cross.
