Edomex presents growth in aquaculture production


In the last five years, the aquaculture production of the State of Mexico had a positive growth trend, going from 16,614 tons of fish meat in 2018 to a production of 24,425 tons in 2021, according to data from the Secretary of the Field state.

“The entity has distinguished itself at the national level for having a thriving and entrepreneurial aquaculture, which has allowed it to maintain leadership, due to the volumes produced, among the 15 landlocked entities in the country; and first national place in production of rainbow trout and carp”, deepened the state agency.

About which are the three centers where the development of the Mexican aquaculture is concentrated, these are Calimaya and Tiacaque in Jocotitlán, as well as La Paz in Villa Guerrero; where carp, trout, tilapia, bass, catfish and bullfrog are produced.

By species, the main municipalities where aquaculture is carried out are: trout in Amanalco, Donato Guerra, Jiquipilco, Malinalco and Valle de Bravo; tent in Acambay, Almoloya de Juárez, Jilotepec, Temascalcingo and Villa Victoria.

As for tilapia, in Santo Tomás, Tejupilco, Valle de Bravo, Villa Guerrero and Zacualpan, as well as bullfrog in Donato Guerra, Ixtapan de la Sal, Tianguistenco, Villa Guerrero and Calimaya; the three points concentrate just over 1,000 producers.

Lenten Season for the Valley of Mexico

For this Lenten season, the government of the State of Mexico announced that in the State of Mexico a mobilization of approximately 72,000 tons of fishery products is estimated (of which, approximately 10,000 tons are of species produced in the State of Mexico, mainly trout, carp, tilapia and catfish).

For its part, the Ministry of Economic Development of the country’s capital reported that an influx of at least 125,000 buyers is expected in the city from April 14 to 17 in the markets of La Viga and La Nueva Viga, the main marketing centers. of this sector.

In the capital, an economic impact is projected due to the consumption of sea products for 1,425 million pesos; sales of fish and shellfish will account for approximately 40% of the national total.
