At about 3 am, on Oct. 9, 2021, officers responded to a report of an assault with a weapon at a fast-food restaurant near 80 Avenue and Gateway Boulevard, Edmonton police said in a Tuesday news release. Five males were standing outside a drive-thru window when they were approached by a group of male suspects waiting in line.

One of the suspects allegedly pointed a firearm at the first group and discharged it a few feet away from where the five males were standing, police said. Moments later, three of the suspects, including the alleged shooter, reportedly assaulted two members of the first group before fleeing the area in a vehicle. Neither of the groups knew one another.

Although no one was struck by gunshots, police said, two males were treated and transported to hospital with serious injuries from an unprovoked attack.
