The Edmonton Oilers concluded their preseason Saturday night with a 3-2 victory over the Vancouver Canucks. The greasers went 6-1-1.

Evan Bouchard fired a flurry home from the spot to give the Oilers the advantage in the power play with 3:40 left in the first period. Just 49 seconds later, Colton Sceviour prepared Brendan Perlini for his sixth goal of the preseason.

Mikko Koskinen stopped Canucks’ 11 shots in the first period. Stuart Skinner took over between the tubes to start the second.

Kailer Yamamoto scored the only goal of the second period. He was sent only by Derek Ryan and beat Thatcher Demko by a short hit.

Phillip Di Giuseppe beat Skinner to put the Canucks on the board with just over six minutes to go in the third. The Canucks removed Demko with 3:37 left and came close to a goal with 2:18 remaining when JT Miller beat Skinner with a redirect.

With 1:12 on the clock, Bouchard was hooked. Skinner devised a right-hand safeguard just before time expired to preserve victory. He finished with 15 saves on 17 shots.

Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl, Darnell Nurse, Tyson Barrie and Mike Smith did not participate in the Oilers. Zack Kassian did not play after being injured in a fight Thursday. His status for Wednesday’s first home game is undetermined.

The Oilers open the regular season Wednesday at home against the Vancouver Canucks. 630 CHED coverage will begin with the Face-to-Face Show at 6pm. The game will start at 8pm. M.
