An Edmonton man faces numerous charges after a 25-year-old man was killed in a collision involving a pedestrian in Spruce Grove on Friday.

At around 7:28 a.m., Parkland RCMP received a report of a vehicle stolen from a home in the Springwood Way area, police said in a news release Friday.

Police said a man from inside the home followed the driver of the stolen vehicle, which police identified as a red 2010 Ford Edge, when an “interaction” occurred in the area of ​​Jennifer Heil Way and Spruce Ridge Road and the man was hit by the vehicle.

He was taken to a local hospital in critical condition. The 25-year-old Spruce Grove man later died at the hospital, police said Saturday.

“Our thoughts are with the victim’s family at this difficult time,” police said in a news release.

After the collision, the suspect fled the area in the stolen car, police said, and the intersection was closed for several hours while officers investigated.

After what they described as a “complex” investigation, police pressed charges on Saturday. Police added that they located the car on Friday and are no longer looking for it.

Cody Marcel Young, 30 of Edmonton is charged with driving in a dangerous manner causing bodily harm, failing to stop after an accident resulting in bodily harm, theft of a motor vehicle, and operating a motor vehicle while prohibited.

Young is scheduled to appear in Stony Plain court on October 27.
