Early iPhone 13 Pro Customers Reporting Software Bugs

IPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max released on friday, with him iPhone 13 series base, the iPad mini 6, and the new iPad. Less than a day after the iPhone 13 Pro series went on sale, the first customers were unhappy Reddit are reporting a number of bugs and software issues, including:

  • All animations (except vertical scrolling) in third party apps are limited to 60Hz on the IPhone 13 Pro 120Hz ‘ProMotion’ display. Apple has recognized this as an iOS 15 bug and said that Full ProMotion support for third-party applications comes in a software update.
  • Even when Wi-Fi is connected and working, the status bar does not show a Wi-Fi symbol.
  • The ‘VPN’ switch in Settings fails, causing the user to be unable to enable a VPN connection.
Here’s a video of the Reddit user phenomenon. Southernboyj:
  • Connectivity issues between iPhone 13 Pro series and Apple Watch. The reported problems range from not being able to pair the two devices to the iPhone abruptly losing connectivity after being paired.
  • According to reports from various users, CarPlay does not work and often hangs when trying to play audio.
  • Widgets spontaneously start to misbehave.
  • The ‘Tap to Wake’ function stops working randomly.

The iPhone 13 series ships with the Candidate version for iOS 15 (RC) build out of the box, with an update to the final build of iOS 15 available for download.

However, iPhone 13 Pro series users report that these issues persist even after installing all available software updates.

And while this is not a software “bug”, early customers seem to be unanimously upset that on the iPhone 13 Pro Max, Apple decided not to do anything constructive with the extra screen real estate that the (slightly) smaller notch frees up. Instead of adding new icons to the status bar or introducing some kind of new functionality (like the numerical battery percentage), the iPhone manufacturer simply increased the size of the existing status bar icons to take up more space.
