Investigators at the Sûreté du Québec think driver fatigue may have played a role in an accident early Thursday that left a 53-year-old truck driver dead.

The incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. at the St-Simon exit on Highway 20.

The driver apparently lost control of his vehicle and eventually stopped in the middle of the road. The firefighters needed hydraulic clamps to free the driver from the wreckage. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The highway was completely closed to traffic until 5 a.m. M.

The SQ said it had brought the incident to the attention of the Quebec occupational safety and health commission.
